Hi, I’m Brendan Blomeley, your independent Mayor of the City of Clarence. I’m here to listen and work for you. Whether you have questions, concerns, or ideas, I’d love to hear them.
About Me
I live in Lindisfarne with my wife Melina, and between us we have five children.
I currently serve as the Mayor of the City of Clarence, first elected to council in 2000, and I’m also the CEO of the Tasmanian Racing Club.
Over the past 30 years, I’ve built extensive experience across the corporate, government, and community sectors. I’ve worked as a ministerial adviser at both state and federal levels, represented Tasmania’s largest private employer for over a decade, led a national industry association, and served as Manager of Government Affairs for a top-50 ASX-listed company. This experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of how both government and business operate.
I hold an MBA and am a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand.
Currently, I’m the Chair of the Board of the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia New Zealand, Vice President of the South-East Region Development Association, a member of both the TasWater Owners’ Representative Group and Board Selection Committee. I’m also honoured to be the Patron of the Eastern Suburbs Athletic Club.
Over the years, I’ve proudly served my community in many roles, including as Chair of a national suicide prevention charity.

Why I’m Standing?
I love our city and over this term, I have rolled up my sleeves and worked for the best interests of our community, and I am proud of what we have achieved together.
This hasn’t always been easy as we have faced both incredible opportunities and undeniable challenges – but standing up for what’s right, turning up and listening to residents, and delivering real results is what the people of Clarence need – and deserve.
The future I see for Clarence is an exciting one as we are a city on the move.
We are one of Tasmania’s fastest-growing municipalities and people are choosing to live here, invest here, start businesses and raise families here because of the extraordinary lifestyle we offer.
We are truly fortunate to live in the best place on earth, but sensible, sustainable growth doesn’t happen by accident.
The challenge before us is not whether Clarence continues to grow. The challenge is ensuring we grow well.
That means planning thoughtfully. Investing wisely. And importantly, protecting what makes our city special while embracing the opportunities that change can bring.
To achieve this, Clarence needs capable, proven leadership. Leadership that I have been proud to provide.
What I Deliver
Real Outcomes For Clarence
Over this term, I have been the driving force behind transformational initiatives like:
- Expansion of the Derwent River Ferry Service, giving our community greater connectivity and convenience
- Leading the successful push for a headspace service on the eastern shore, improving access to vital youth mental health services
- Advocating for much-needed upgrades to our local infrastructure, including the Mornington Roundabout and the Tasman Bridge
- Lobbying for a significant increase in investment in desperately needed local sporting infrastructure
If given the honour to continue serving as your Mayor, my focus will be on three key priorities:

- Economic Growth & Fiscal Responsibility: Attracting more businesses, creating local jobs, and ensuring Council’s budget is lean and delivering on the projects that matter to ratepayers.
- Infrastructure & Community Safety: Continue the expansion of the Derwent River Ferry Service; lobby state and federal governments to start planning for a replacement Tasman Bridge; fix the Mornington Roundabout; upgrade our local roads; expand our green spaces and tracks and trails network; collaborate with key national sporting organisations and local clubs to upgrade and expand sporting infrastructure; develop multi-storey carparks in key urban areas; and work with Tasmania Police and support organisations to keep our community safe.
- Transparent and Accountable Leadership: Continue my open-door policy approach and accessibility to genuine community engagement.
